With the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy you will learn to perform the full range of beauty therapies ranging from facials, manicures, pedicures, and waxing, to spa experiences like Indian head massage, and more in-demand, advanced treatments like microdermabrasion.

You will also gain the skills to manage financial transactions, develop effective work habits, work within organisational requirements, maintain a professional appearance and support a team.

Education

You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
  • 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.

Minimum age

You will need to be at least 18 years old.

English

This course involves reading learning content and undertaking a range of written assessments and engaging in online forums and discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires the successful completion of English to Year 12 level.

If you haven't successfully completed English at Year 12 level, you can demonstrate equivalency through one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a Nationally Recognised Training qualification at Certificate III level or higher; or
  • 3 years relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication

Physical requirements

You will need to be able to stand for prolonged periods of time whilst performing treatments, treatment timeframes vary from 15 minutes upwards. Some treatments require you to be able to physically massage the client or remove wax. 


Students with epilepsy are not permitted to use indirect high frequency equipment in specialised facial and body treatments as they may trigger an epilepsy fit.

The course contains a minimum of 155 hours of work placement

Your Work Placement will need to be conducted in an appropriate work place, supervised by a qualified staff member. You will need to secure your own Work Placement; however Open Colleges can provide advice and direction through our Work Placement Support Team.

You will need to undertake work placement to successfully complete the units of competency in this course. As such, a Statement of Attainment cannot be issued for part completion of the qualification unless work placement is completed.

Your work placement will need to be completed in Australia, and you will be responsible for the costs of any travel, accommodation, statutory checks or other requirements related to your work placement.

You may be required to complete work placement in multiple salons if your chosen salon does not provide all of the required services.
