About the position

The Data Engineer will play a key role in bringing up our strategic big data ecosystem, who will be part of the data team which designs, develops and maintains a highly scalable data infrastructure.

The Data Engineer can work with any team or division within the Enterprise and will work on a broad range of projects and datasets.

In this role, you will undertake the following core functions across the division:

  • Guide and contribute to the strategic development of our data infrastructure
  • Exhibit strong capability in adopting cutting edge big data technologies across the enterprise
  • Gain a deep understanding of our existing systems, data pipelines and business functions with regards to data management and reporting.
  • Support production environments which includes traditional data warehouse & ETL jobs
  • Work closely with data scientists & analysts across the enterprise to productionize machine learning models and to build in-house cognitive services.
  • Continuously improve platform manageability, performance and infrastructure
  • Contribute to the identification of data governance, data integrity and data quality

Skills & Experience

  • Solid programming skills in any of these languages – Java, Scala, Python
  • Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer, Big Data Consultant or a similar role
  • Strong experience in day to day production data management and support.
  • Experience working with traditional Data warehousing, SQL & Stored procedures.  
  • Experience building solutions using Hadoop eco-system is a must
  • Proficiency in designing ETL workflows for complex datasets
  • Strong data modeling, mapping and cleansing skills
  • Experience with Spark, Elastic search, Big Query, BI tools (Tableau /QlikView/ PowerBI) are highly desired
  • Experience working with cloud environments
  • Fundamental software engineering principles & practices
  • Maintaining a healthy balance between perfection and pragmatism

Tertiary qualifications including a minimum of an undergraduate qualification in:

  • Computer Science
