Today, we deliver a diverse portfolio of courses spanning three Divisions: Business, Finance and Services; Education, Health and Community Services; and Design, Science and Technology. We focus on meeting the needs of adult learners by providing highly flexible, accessible and affordable education and training.

Our team includes over 480 staff and 300 contract educators. Over the last three years, we have been through a fundamental organisational transformation. We have more than tripled the number of staff and expect to grow to more than 700 staff over the next three years.

About the Role

Open Colleges is seeking to appoint a mid-level full stack developer to implement open, scalable services and deliver a modern responsive online platform for our learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Agile software development & delivery
    • Developing scalable, tested and highly available APIs
    • Contribute to the design of a scalable, responsive & robust architecture
    • Improving frontend application performance and GUI responsiveness
    • Ensuring the student experience is seamless across desktop, mobile and tablet devices
    • Writing test cases and ensuring a high level of quality
    • Producing detailed specifications
    • Ensure appropriate levels of documentation exist throughout the process
  • Analytics
    • Ensure timely and meaningful data is being collected from OpenSpace, in accordance with Open Colleges’ data policies
    • Leverage Open Colleges’ platforms and data to test and learn

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2+ years web development
  • Experience in MVC frameworks (preferably AngularJS)
  • Experience in PHP development
  • Proven experience delivering APIs and web services
  • Experience in MySQL and the LAMP stack
  • Understanding of unit testing principles
  • A good understanding of the Open Source software community and available resources
  • SlimPHP, Swagger, PHPUnit
  • Drupal
  • AWS
  • Docker


  • Relevant qualifications in Information Technology
