Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do workplacement in a home salon?

icon

Yes, you complete your work placement in a home salon, as long as it is a registered business (ABN) and provides the requirements in the way of treatments. Many students end up at more than 1 salon for placement, as not every salon will provide the types of treatment that you need to practice in order to complete your course.

And what qualification is my supervisor required to have?

icon

We recognise that training packages and qualifications change over time.  The supervisor needs to have a qualification in nail technology or beauty therapy and have a minimum of three years’ of industry experience working in a customer facing role performing nail treatments.

What is the difference between a Beautician and a Beauty Therapist?

icon

A Beauty Therapist has completed a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or Diploma and has specific knowledge of spa therapies, and additional treatments such as facials and massage. A Beautician has completed a Certificate III in Beauty Therapy and is knowledgeable about basic beauty treatments such as make-up, waxing and nails.

Are the products included in this course? If not what do I need to purchase?

icon

No products or equipment are included in this course. Your work placement supervisor may allow you to use some of their equipment, but this course requires you to complete certain treatments on your own models, so it is important to source your own products and materials. We do provide you with a guide list of resources in the Course Guide. This is just a guide only, and brands and websites are just suggestions. You are welcome to ask your trainer for their own recommendations.

Can I do laser hair removal with this qualification?

icon

Unfortunately, no. That sits under a dermal therapy qualification, which is an entirely different training package. However, completing a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy will provide you with a basic understanding of anatomy, which is a good pathway to further study in dermal therapies. You may even be interested in then going on to complete a nursing course to work in the popular cosmetic therapy field.

How many hours of work placement do I need to do for Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy

icon

This course contains a minimum of 350 hours of work placement which will be split into three blocks. To find out what the suitable workplaces are for this course, download the course guide.
