This Skill Set is designed to suit beginners, as well as those with some experience in the industry who are looking to gain additional knowledge and skills without completing a full qualification.

It is also for students wanting to study the BSB50320 Diploma of Human Resource Management and are missing the prior study or work experience entry requirements.

If you are an existing worker or have experience in the related industry, please inform our enrolment consultants during your enrolment conversation. You may be eligible to enrol as an existing worker and complete your studies faster. Please note - limitations do apply.

Course Duration

The duration for the course is self paced - maximum of 6 months. As a self-paced online course, the time it will take you to complete is flexible and dependent on ability and time available.

Entry Requirements

Recommended Local Entry Requirements

Students will need to be at least 18 years old. Students under 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete the parent or guardian declaration on the Enrolment Form.

Students residing in WA/NT under the age of 18, who are not currently studying for their year 12 certificate cannot be enrolled.

Students are recommended to have the language, literacy, and numeracy skills that ensure the ability to read and comprehend technical terms and communicate effectively through email.

These skills are equivalent to:

  • Successful completion of Year 10 OR
  • ACSF Level 3 OR
  • Certificate III or higher

Tools, equipment, and skills required:

  • Access to up to 3 people to participate in role plays and assessments
  • Access to a device with audio & video capabilities to record simulated role-play tasks for submission
  • A simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions for role-play with facilities and equipment
  • Access to office equipment including telephone, photocopier / printer / scanner in a safe environment that includes an ergonomically sound computer workstation
  • Tripod to provide a stable and secure platform to mount the digital recording device
  • Basic computing skills
  • Access to a modern computer with high-speed internet
  • Access to Microsoft Office

We have partnered with Australian Counselling Service (ACS) to support your wellbeing while you study with us. If you are experiencing stress such as balancing study with other commitments, anxiety about role plays, or just needing motivation, you can reach out to ACS for free short-term counselling support.

Their services include:

  • Free and confidential no cost to you
  • Delivered via Zoom accessible from anywhere in Australia
  • Flexible and available sessions offered 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week
  • Supportive and practical helping you manage study stress, motivation, anxiety, and life challenges

You can book directly with a counsellor of your choice through the ACS website. In most cases, appointments are available within 48 hours of reaching out. More information on how to access this service can be found in the welcome module of your course.

Katherine has been in management roles for the last 12 years working in both the tourism sector, financial planning and currently she is working in the education sector.
As a General Manager of a small travel company, Client Service Manager in Finance, and as Registrar in her current role, Katherine has extensive experience in leading successful teams, supporting the businesses in Human Resource services, working in contract management, performance management, training and development and ensuring high levels of customer service are delivered to a range of stakeholders. Katherine is passionate about supporting the teams in which we work and enjoys watching her colleagues grow in their roles.

Prior to joining Open Colleges, Katherine also held a position as a face-to-face trainer and Assessor where she was responsible for delivering learning to international students.

Katherine holds a Diploma of Leadership and Management, Diploma in Tourism and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
